Just Show Up
One main thing that people forget is that just showing up will yield a large percentage of your results.
Some days I really don’t feel like training.
I mean I REAAAALLLLLLY don’t feel like training.
I’m most likely sore.
I’m most likely tired.
I’m most likely supposed to be doing something hard and something heavy.
But I have also come to realize that those are the days that I most likely need to do the thing.
And I also know that my mind is a whiny child whose demands should not be heeded. (more on this later)
The people who I see become the most successful in the gym are the ones who show up whether they feel like it or not.
They may hit traffic on the way to the gym. They still show up.
They may be tired after a long day at work. They still show up.
They may have a minor injury. They still show up.
If you want to get results you need to be consistent over a long period of time.
A long period of time does not mean two weeks.
I’m talking months and years here.
You may find after you just show up the energy that other people give you is infectious.
You may find after you just show up that you have the best workout you’ve had in a while.
You see your mind will try to lie to you.
It’ll try to tell you that you deserve a day off.
It’ll try to tell you that you aren’t making any progress so what’s the point?
It’ll try to tell you that maybe you should take up Bingo instead.
It’ll try to tell you that Bingo is the most popular sport in the Mid West and that it’s actually pretty exciting.
It’ll try to tell you that there is Bingo down at the community Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the same time that you usually train.
It’ll try to tell you that Bingo is easier on the joints than training.
It’ll try to tell you that the prizes at Bingo are actually pretty sweet.
It’ll try to tell you that if you learn to work 6 cards at once you may have a chance of beating Gladys from the post-office.
The point is that your mind will go to great lengths to convince you to not train.
Your mind is a whiny child.
And what do we do with children who whine?
We make them do what they don’t want to do anyways.
Isn’t it the worst when you see a kid whine about something and then their parents give in?
Think of your mind as a whiny child and proceed from there….
When your whiny child mind tells you that it’s tired and doesn’t want to train?
You say too bad we’re training.
When it tells you that it doesn’t want to get so early up in the morning?
You say too bad you’re getting up.
When it wants to eat ice cream for breakfast?
You say….maybe just this one time…don’t tell mom.
So basically the whole point of this is to tell you to just show up.
Show up a lot for a long time and you will get the results you are after.
